How Often Should I Get Botox®?

Botox® remains the most commonly performed cosmetic treatment around the country each year. If you’re considering starting Botox® treatments, you’re one of millions of people enjoying the benefits of this incredible non-surgical cosmetic treatment. However, it’s important to know what to expect as you add this cosmetic option to your schedule. Botox® is not a permanent treatment, and your re-treatment schedule will be as unique as your results. Here’s what to know about Botox® treatments, their frequency, and how our providers at Tideline Center for Health & Aesthetics can help.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

On average, Botox® results last for three to six months. Over time, the product will begin to fade, and you’ll begin to see movement in the area again. The point at which this begins to happen is different for each patient – some patients see it as early as three months while others may not see their results fade until five to six months. However, most experts (including our providers) conclude that Botox® lasts for about four months, or 120 days. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to judge the specific longevity of your results if you haven’t tried Botox® before, as there are a variety of factors that can affect your results.

What Impacts Botox® Longevity?

Many different things can impact how long your Botox® results last. Here are some of the main ones.

Metabolism

People with a higher metabolism or people who are more active tend to see shorter Botox® results. In these people, it may begin to wear off within three to four months.

Treatment Area

Certain Botox® treatment areas will last longer than others. That is, areas that tend to experience higher levels of movement (such as around the eyes) will cause the product to fade faster than in areas like the brow or glabellar region. A general rule is that more muscle movement will cause the product to fade faster.

Treatment Frequency and Dosage

Higher amounts of Botox® will last longer than smaller amounts. Additionally, patients who have just started Botox® or who don’t get treatments frequently are likely to see shorter results than long-term, repeat Botox® patients.

How Often Should I Get Botox® Treatments?

The best way to decide how often you should get treatments is by seeing how Botox® works for you and then determining the best window for re-treatment. For example, if you don’t want to see any movement in the treatment area, consider getting treatments more frequently (as in every three to four months). If you’re not bothered by a little movement as your results fade, you can return every five to six months. Additionally, the longer you use Botox®, the longer your results will last. Ultimately, the best re-treatment window will depend on your goals. Our providers can help you determine the right schedule for your preferences and unique needs during a consultation.
