Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) with Biote®

WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?

Female bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a standard solution for coping with the side effects of aging and hormone imbalances. Biote® hormone replacement therapy can help those suffering from unbalanced hormones due to aging or other factors, like menopause. Bioidentical hormones are identical in structure to human hormones. BHRT with Biote®, offered at Tideline Center for Health & Aesthetics, can come in oral, topical, and pellet varieties.

WHAT ARE FEMALE BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY PELLETS?

Biote® Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy pellets consist of custom compounded bioidentical hormones. The pellets include hormones with the same chemical structure as the hormones the body produces. The hormones found in pellets are estradiol and testosterone.  Treatment may include either or both hormones depending on your symptoms and blood test results. The pellets intend to raise your hormones to ideal levels, where you no longer experience the negative side effects of unbalanced hormones. The pellets are injected under the skin by a specialist and gradually absorbed into the body.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BIOTE® PELLET THERAPY?

Any woman experiencing hot flashes, vaginal dryness or changes in mood may be a good candidate for Biote® pellet therapy.  Other women who may benefit from Biote® pellet therapy are those who have experienced decreased libido or sex drive. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can address these issues directly.

Symptoms of those who can achieve significant improvement with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy include:

  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Excessive sweating or hot flashes
  • Decreased sex drive or discomfort during intercourse
  • Hair loss or thinning
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Fatigue or insomnia
  • Acne or skin problems

Biote® bioidentical hormone therapy can also be beneficial for women who have metabolic syndrome, thyroid issues, or have had a hysterectomy.

WHEN WILL YOU NOTICE THE RESULTS?

Many patients see improvement in symptoms after 4-6 weeks.   Patients are advised to undergo two Biote® hormonal pellet treatments, with a four-month interval between them, to fully experience the benefits and determine whether to proceed with further treatment. However, the length of treatment is always at the discretion of the patient.

After four to six weeks, the endocrine system begins to respond to the therapy. After six months, patients should notice the full effects of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Some patients may not see the benefits of BHRT until the second therapy session.

What is BHRT?

BHRT stands for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Bioidentical hormones share a similar chemical structure with the normal hormones your body produces, meaning they are compatible with your body and even indistinguishable from natural estrogen and testosterone.

Is BHRT covered by insurance?

There may be some instances where your insurance covers BHRT, but it’s typical to pay out-of-pocket for most or all of your costs

What are the side effects of bioidentical hormones?

You’re most likely to experience side effects after your first dose. Your body will begin to adjust over time. Common side effects can include weight fluctuations, acne, spotting, mood swings, and more. Our team will give you a detailed list of side effects at your appointment.

Does BHRT cause weight gain?

It’s possible to gain weight on BHRT, typically as an initial side effect. However, many women find that they achieve a more stable weight with hormone therapy – one common effect of menopause being weight gain.

Does BHRT help with belly fat?

BHRT is not considered a weight loss treatment or body contouring option. However, because many women gain belly fat as a result of menopause and low hormone levels, BHRT may have the opposite effect. You may experience a reduction in body fat, especially as your energy levels increase and you have more capability for exercise.

How long should a woman take bioidentical hormones?

The length of treatment can be different for each woman – some women use BHRT for only a couple of years while others use BHRT for longer. Our providers can help you determine the appropriate amount of time for your needs.

What is the difference between HRT and BHRT?

BHRT uses plant-derived hormones chemically similar to those found in the body. Traditional HRT comes from various other sources, both animal-based and synthetic.

Hormone therapy is a prescription-only medication, and we don't recommend searching for online vendors or over-the-counter alternatives. An intimate healthcare provider can help you ensure a safe and effective therapy that fits your needs.

How much does BHRT cost per month?

The cost of BHRT can vary depending on unique factors. During a consultation, our team will give you a complete cost estimate.

Who is a candidate for BHRT?

Good candidates for BHRT are women experiencing symptoms of low hormone levels, especially menopausal women. These symptoms typically include hot flashes, low energy, vaginal dryness, weight gain, and more.

How long can a woman take BHRT?

Some women use BHRT for five years or more, while others use it for shorter periods of time. Ultimately, the length of time will depend on factors like your lifestyle, symptoms, and health needs.
