Understanding the Benefits of Perineoplasty

It’s no secret that women are some of the most resilient people on earth. The female body has the incredible ability to carry and deliver a child into the world, establishing new generations of resilient women.

Whether you have given birth vaginally or acquired a pelvic floor injury from activity, perineoplasty is an excellent way to restore confidence and quality of life making you feel like the amazing woman you are.

Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to restore the support of your pelvic floor. Perineal health makes a huge difference in how you can live your life as it makes activities like intercourse, or even something as simple as wearing tight clothing, much more comfortable.

When you eliminate the problems associated with poor perineal health, you unlock the potential for a higher quality of life. That is why perineoplasty is quickly becoming a popular choice for women looking to strengthen their pelvic floors because everyone deserves to live their best life possible.

Understanding Perineoplasty

Perineoplasty is not just for women who have given birth. Extreme weight loss or gain, injury, high-impact sports and exercise, or genetics all may contribute to someone seeking the benefits of perineoplasty. This minimally invasive procedure seeks to correct damage to the perineum and tighten the vaginal opening by removing excess skin and repairing the muscle layer surrounding the vagina.

While Perineoplasty is not considered a major surgery, it isn’t a procedure that will have you back on your feet in just a few hours after treatment. There is some downtime required, but it is well worth it to have your confidence back.

Benefits of Perineoplasty

Restoring your body back to a state that puts you in control has amazing effects on your confidence. By no longer letting perineal damage dictate what you do, you transform the quality of your life for the better. In addition to the mental benefits of perineoplasty, there are also specific physical benefits that come with perineoplasty:

  • Improved sexual satisfaction.
  • Narrower vaginal opening.
  • Decreased soreness.
  • Stronger pelvic floor.
  • Treats urinary incontinence.
  • Am I a Candidate for Perineoplasty?

Perineoplasty is most common among postpartum women with perineal trauma, individuals with pelvic floor dysfunction, and patients experiencing vaginal laxity or atrophy. Some other common reasons people choose to undergo perineoplasty are:

  • Loose skin around the vagina.
  • Excessive scar tissue after episiotomy or tearing during delivery.
  • Low Libido and decreased sensation during sex.
  • Vaginal Discomfort.
  • Urinary or bowel incontinence.

Perineoplasty is not recommended until you are finished having children, so women who are pregnant do not qualify for this procedure. It is also not recommended for those who have cancer, a genital infection, or an abnormal pap smear.

Things to Consider Before Perineoplasty

Before you book your appointment there are some important considerations to make to determine if this procedure is right for you. Perineoplasty is a procedure that requires downtime and essential aftercare to avoid potential complications. Those wishing to avoid procedures with any sort of downtime may not find perineoplasty to be the right fit.

Perineoplasty Procedure

Perineoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on your specific treatment plan. An incision is made at the vaginal opening, where excess skin and scar tissue are removed. Before the incision is closed with stitches, the deep layer of muscle surrounding the vagina is repaired. The procedure only takes about an hour, and you can go home after a short recovery.

Perineoplasty Recovery

Because perineoplasty requires incisions and stitches, the recovery can take up to a few weeks. Swelling and discomfort for the first few days after the procedure are common. Ice packs and pain relievers can help to ease this discomfort. A more extensive list of post-operative care will be provided to you at your appointment.
