Vaginal rejuvenation is a term you may have heard on social media. If you’re unfamiliar with what it is and what it can do, you’re not alone. Vaginal rejuvenation is a relatively new field of intimate health that continues growing more popular. Fortunately for many women, there are now more options available for intimate health problems that previously had very few solutions. Both surgical and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation options are offered at Tideline Center for Health & Aesthetics.
What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation is a type of therapy that seeks to rejuvenate, reconstruct, and/or improve the health, function, and appearance of the female pelvic region – most commonly the vaginal canal. Vaginal rejuvenation may be related to sexual function, or it could be indicative of issues in your overall health. Vaginal rejuvenation can be a misleading term because it doesn’t always involve just the vagina. Vaginal rejuvenation can also involve areas of the vulva such as the labia and clitoral hood. Vaginal rejuvenation can be surgical, but there are a variety of increasingly popular non-surgical options available, too.
Types of Vaginal Rejuvenation
There are benefits to both surgical and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation. Our providers can help you determine the best approach for your intimate health goals during a consultation.
Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
The most common forms of surgical vaginal rejuvenation include procedures designed to remove excess skin around the labia and clitoris. These surgical procedures are typically performed on an outpatient basis and require around one week away from work and normal activities.
Labiaplasty is one of the most well-known forms of surgical vaginal rejuvenation – its goal is to reduce the size of the labia majora and labia minora in order to reduce symptoms like emotional or physical discomfort. Clitoral hood reduction is a procedure that removes excess tissue from the clitoral hood, or the skin that covers and protects the clitoris. Excess skin on the clitoral hood can be uncomfortable and even cause difficulties in reaching orgasm. While clitoral hood reduction may be performed to increase sexual pleasure, it may also be done for hygiene reasons.
For either procedure, swelling can be expected to last for around six weeks. However, surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures produce long-term results – and for many women, significantly improved intimate health.
Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation
Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation has the goal of improving vaginal atrophy, sexual dysfunction, and other symptoms that come with aging, childbirth, or changing hormone levels (such as vaginal dryness or urinary incontinence). Because they are non-surgical, these therapies typically require a package of treatments for the best results.
ThermiVa® is a type of laser vaginal rejuvenation that uses radiofrequency energy to produce gentle heat and contract the tissues, prompting new collagen production and reducing laxity. Another type of non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation uses PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, a serum rich in growth factors that is derived from a blood sample. PRP and the O-Shot® can enhance the growth of new tissue and improve symptoms like sexual dysfunction, dryness, or incontinence. For women who don’t have these concerns, the O-Shot® can improve sexual satisfaction.
Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatments come with minimal downtime, although regular touch-up appointments may be needed to maintain results.
Am I A Good Candidate for Vaginal Rejuvenation?
You can benefit from vaginal rejuvenation if you experience symptoms like discomfort, dryness, laxity, stress urinary incontinence, or low self-esteem. Many women who opt for vaginal rejuvenation have gone through significant changes with childbirth or menopause that interfere with their intimate health. As for whether you can benefit more from surgical or non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation, our knowledgeable and compassionate providers can help you explore the best options for your intimate health needs.
