The P-Shot® is an incredible treatment designed to provide a variety of benefits for men. It’s a foundational therapy used to treat erectile dysfunction, improve sexual drive, and much more. If you’re considering the P-Shot®, then it’s important to know that some preparation is key to getting good results. At Tideline Center for Health & Aesthetics, we offer the P-Shot® to enhance overall sexual wellness and improve intimate health. Here’s what to know about the P-Shot® and how to prepare for your appointment.
What Happens During the P-Shot®?
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a unique treatment that uses your body’s own growth factors for a regenerative serum. Growth factors are responsible for helping your body regrow tissue, and they naturally exist inside the platelets in your blood. PRP harnesses and distills these growth factors into a more potent form, and then injects them into specific areas of the body.
The P-Shot® requires a blood draw through your arm. Once the blood sample is collected, it’s placed in a centrifuge which spins it rapidly to separate the blood into its components. The plasma, rich in growth factors and platelets, is then injected into specific areas of the penis to begin regenerating healthy new tissue and improving blood flow. In total, treatments take about one hour and require very little downtime afterward.
Before Your Appointment
PRP involves a blood draw, meaning it’s important to avoid NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and aspirin for about one week ahead of your procedure. If you need pain medication, take Tylenol. Avoid nutritional supplements that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients like ginkgo biloba, garlic, vitamin E, vitamin A, flax oil, and curcumin. Also, avoid alcohol and smoking for at least one week before the procedure. It’s important to keep yourself hydrated to ensure a smooth process when drawing blood, so drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your session.
After Your Appointment
It’s normal to experience some bruising at both the blood draw and injection sites, but any bruises should fade within a few days to weeks. Bruising can be helped by continuing to avoid blood-thinning medications for the week following your treatment. If you have any discomfort from treatment, use Tylenol and a protected cool pack. Avoiding supplements, alcohol, and smoking is also crucial.
There are no limits on your activity afterward, except for avoiding strenuous exercise. You can even engage in sexual activity, although you may have some slight discomfort for the first few days. You may notice results right away, but it can take about one month to feel the full effect.
